(Columbia, SC) – A three judge federal panel today issued its ruling to approve South Carolina’s Voter ID law. Even though the United States Supreme Court ruled the issue of Voter ID to be constitutional back in 2008, our state’s constitutional right to enact this law has faced an onslaught of court challenges by the Obama Administration and its supporters. While voter turnout has increased in every single state that has enacted similar Voter ID laws, South Carolina was again singled out as a target by this White House in the same way our state was singled out by the NLRB and powerful Union Bosses in an attack against Boeing for bringing jobs to South Carolina. Originally scheduled to be in place for the 2012 elections, these court proceedings have delayed our state’s Voter ID law until at least the 2013 elections.

(Columbia, SC) – After last week’s vote, the House and Senate versions of the Voter ID bill (H. 3003) were sent to a joint House/Senate conference committee to see if an agreement could be reached. Conferees met in Columbia today and agreed on a bill that focused on securing our state’s election process with a clean Voter ID only bill.

Release – Senate Votes Down Clean Voter ID Bill
Senate insists on unconstitutional additions that killed bill last year
(Columbia, SC) – Last week, the House returned to the Senate a clean Voter ID only bill. Since then, SC’s Attorney General issued an official opinion stating that the Senate’s version of the Voter ID bill is unconstitutional.
Faced with the decision of concurrence on the House’s clean bill (H. 3003), the Senate voted today to non-concur, insisting on the same non-related provisions that killed Voter ID last year.
